Reflective Essay
By: Steven Guan
I believe 2010 was a good year. To start off I have accomplished many things such as passing grade eleven, learning a lot of new stuff in my classes such as biology, chemistry, and math. Although when I passed those courses I did not feel too accomplished for the marks that I have received. So after reflecting on what happened in my previous year, I plan to make some changes to my lifestyle so that I can excel in my academics.
I plan to go to York University, and I want to be able to get in their first year biology, and chemistry. There are a number of steps that I must do to achieve my goal and they are to do my homework, stop procrastinating, and I have to take night school for calculus. The root to my problem is due to me slacking off and not wanting to do work and I need to change this.
The first step would be to develop homework skills and to stay on task with my work. This will give me an advantage because I will have more practice with the work that I am given within my harder courses such as math. What I want to start doing is the moment I reach home I need to get started on my homework which will stop me from putting it until the last minute. This brings me to my next point of procrastination.
The second step would be to stop procrastinating because that causes stress. Also what this does is that it also makes me slack off more and most of the time procrastinating will lead me to not ending me to do my work at all. Not to mention that there is less effort and the work is usually rushed. How I would go against this problem would be to do all my work right away and make myself a schedule that I must be dedicated to when in doing work. I must make myself think that homework is important because it leads to success.
Lastly I would have to take night school to have all my required courses for university. That’s because calculus is a prerequisite course for first year biology and chemistry. That means I have to stay even more dedicated to my academics because calculus is known to be a very tough course. I have to step up my studies and habits so that I can be prepared to take up another course. Doing so I will be brushing up my organization skills because I have to keep onto of my work.
In conclusion, those are the steps that I need to take in order to achieve what I want in life. Doing so will get me what I want to study and in turn that would lead me to the desired job I want in the future. Reflecting on 2010 I have learned what I must do in order to not make the same mistakes of what I’ve done in the previous year. I hope that I will persevere in my studies and will achieve success.
